Types of Ovens

Built-In (Wall) Ovens

Fixed into a tall cabinet at eye or waist height — easy on the back and a tidy, modern look. The standard choice for contemporary kitchens.

Freestanding Cooker Ovens

An oven combined with a cooktop in one floor-standing unit — a simpler, all-in-one option for smaller kitchens.

Single vs Double Cavity

A single oven has one cavity; a double oven has two so you can cook different dishes at different temperatures at the same time.

How to Choose the Right Oven (Quick Checklist)

  1. Built-in or freestanding? Built-in for a seamless, ergonomic kitchen; freestanding if you want oven plus hob in one unit.
  2. Capacity. Around 60–70 litres suits most families; larger capacities (80L+) suit keen bakers and big roasts.
  3. Fan-assisted? A fan (true fan or multifunction) oven cooks more evenly and faster than a static oven.
  4. Count the functions. Look for fan bake, conventional, grill and defrost as a minimum.
  5. Plan the power. Electric ovens need a dedicated high-current circuit — confirm the electrical point.

Oven Features to Look For

  • Multifunction / fan-assisted — even, flexible cooking.
  • Right capacity — sized to how you cook.
  • Double-glazed door — cooler to touch, safer.
  • Programmable timer — set start/stop and cooking duration.
  • Easy-clean lining — catalytic or enamel interiors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Built-in or freestanding oven?

A built-in (wall) oven sits in a cabinet at a comfortable height and gives a clean, modern kitchen — best planned during a renovation. A freestanding cooker combines an oven and cooktop in one floor-standing unit, simpler and good for smaller kitchens. Choose built-in for looks and ergonomics, freestanding for simplicity.

What capacity oven do I need?

Around 60–70 litres of usable capacity suits most families. If you regularly roast large meals or bake in quantity, look for 80 litres or more. A compact oven is fine for a small household that mostly bakes occasionally.

Fan-assisted or conventional oven?

A fan-assisted (fan-forced) oven circulates hot air, so it cooks more evenly across all shelves and at slightly lower temperatures — ideal for baking multiple trays at once. A conventional oven has fixed top/bottom heat and suits traditional recipes. A multifunction oven offers both.

Do electric ovens need special wiring?

Usually yes. Electric ovens draw high current, so they need a dedicated high-amperage circuit and the right isolator, fitted by a qualified electrician. Gas ovens need a gas line instead. Plan the electrical or gas point before buying.

What is a double oven?

An oven with two separate cavities, so you can run them at different temperatures at the same time — handy for cooking a roast in one and dessert in the other. Single ovens have one cavity and suit most everyday cooking.

Are built-in oven doors safe to touch?

Our built-in ovens have double or triple-glazed doors and cooling fans that keep the outer glass cooler to the touch — safer in households with children. Some models also feature a child lock on the controls.

Do you deliver and install built-in ovens?

Yes. Big Bath has 10 showrooms nationwide and in-house installers across Peninsular Malaysia who handle the cabinet fit and the electrical connection, with ready stock in Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) and Kuching (Sarawak). WhatsApp your nearest branch.
