Visit Us

A freestanding bathtub stands on its own, with all four sides finished and visible — it does not sit inside a surround. That makes it a design centrepiece rather than just a fixture, and it can be placed anywhere the plumbing allows. At Big Bath our freestanding tubs come in oval, slipper and modern rectangular shapes, all in lightweight acrylic, backed by our in-house installation team across Peninsular Malaysia.

Why Choose a Freestanding Bathtub

A Statement Centrepiece

A freestanding tub is the visual focal point of a bathroom. Its sculptural silhouette elevates the whole room, whether your style is modern minimalist or classic.

Flexible Placement

Because all sides are finished, you are not tied to a wall. Place the tub near a window, in the centre of the room, or against a feature wall — wherever it looks best, as long as the waste and water lines reach.

A Deep, Comfortable Soak

Freestanding tubs are often deeper than built-in models, letting you soak up to the shoulders. Great for relaxing after a long day.

Freestanding Tub Shapes

Oval / Egg

The most popular modern shape — smooth, symmetrical and easy to place. Suits almost any contemporary bathroom.

Slipper / Single-Ended

One end is raised and angled for back support, the other lower. Classic, elegant and very comfortable to lean back in.

Rectangular / Modern

Clean straight lines for a crisp, architectural look — a good match for modern condo bathrooms.

Before You Buy (Quick Checklist)

  1. Check floor strength. A filled freestanding tub is heavy (water + bather can exceed 200–300kg). Confirm your bathroom floor can take the load, especially for larger tubs.
  2. Plan clearance all around. Leave space on every side for cleaning and so the tub reads as a feature, not a tight fit.
  3. Sort the waste and water. Freestanding tubs usually drain to a floor waste and need floor-mounted or wall-mounted taps — decide their positions before installing.
  4. Mind your water heater. A deep tub holds a lot of water; make sure your heater has the capacity to fill it with hot water.
  5. Book installation. Moving and connecting a freestanding tub is a two-person job — let our team handle delivery and fitting.

Freestanding Bathtub Features to Look For

  • Acrylic body — light enough to position, warm to the touch, easy to clean.
  • Pedestal or feet — a solid base or decorative feet that suit your style.
  • Deep soaking well — holds more water for a fuller soak.
  • Included waste — many ship c/w waste for a cleaner finish.
  • Gloss white finish — bright, timeless and easy to match.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a freestanding bathtub?

A bathtub that stands on its own rather than being built into a surround — all four sides are finished and visible. It can be placed anywhere in the bathroom the plumbing allows, and it works as a design centrepiece.

Does a freestanding tub need floor reinforcement?

Not always, but check. A large freestanding tub filled with water plus a bather can weigh 200–300kg or more, concentrated in one spot. For larger tubs or older homes, confirm the bathroom floor can take the load before buying.

How much space does a freestanding bathtub need?

Beyond the tub's own footprint, leave clearance on all sides for cleaning and so it looks intentional rather than cramped. Measure the full area you can dedicate to it, not just the tub length.

Where does the waste pipe go?

Most freestanding tubs drain to a floor waste beneath the tub. Because the position of that waste outlet is hard to change later, decide the tub's final position and plan the floor waste before installation.

What are freestanding bathtubs made of?

Ours are acrylic. Acrylic is far lighter than cast iron or cast stone, which makes delivery and positioning practical, and it keeps bath water warm for longer. It is also smooth, glossy and easy to clean.

Do freestanding tubs come with a base or feet?

Yes — our freestanding tubs sit on either a solid matching pedestal or on decorative feet, depending on the model. Check each listing for what is included.

Do you deliver and install freestanding bathtubs?

Yes. Big Bath has 10 showrooms nationwide and in-house installers across Peninsular Malaysia, with ready stock in Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) and Kuching (Sarawak). Freestanding tubs are awkward to move — let our team handle it. WhatsApp your nearest branch.
